Senior Litigation Paralegal

Kelly M. Davis & Associates, LLC has represented the companies that build Texas for more than 20 years. We are hiring for a senior team position supporting our litigation practice.

This is the Managing Partner’s main paralegal.  The role requires strong experience that allows the candidate to work independently, support the Managing Partner directly, and maintain a working handle on most matters active in the firm at any given time. Candidates should expect to manage many matters simultaneously and be responsible for tracking deadlines across all of them.

Candidates must currently reside in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Our firm primarily practices in Denton, Collin, Dallas, and Tarrant counties, though we regularly practice throughout the state of Texas.

Office Hours:  8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Duties include:

  • Main legal assistant to the Managing Partner
  • Draft initial responses to discovery
  • Obtain, organize, and summarize documents from clients in response to discovery
  • Determine which documents are responsive to discovery requests
  • Calculate and calendar scheduling order deadlines
  • Draft correspondence and pleadings
  • Prepare for and attend trials and major hearings, including second chair responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and oversight to other staff on assigned matters
  • Must track all time in the firm’s management software

Requirements:

  • Paralegal certification, or a legal studies degree with legal assistant certification, preferred. Otherwise, candidates with 10+ years of recent litigation experience will be considered.
  • Significant, recent litigation experience required; construction litigation strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of rules of evidence and civil procedure
  • Regular, direct contact with courts, opposing counsel, and clients requires the ability to present with confidence and professionalism
  • Completion of a skills assessment is required before an interview will be scheduled
  • Employment is contingent on a 90 day probationary period
  • Minimum billable requirement of 25 hours per week

Programs Used:

Lexis Nexis, Clio, RingCentral, Outlook, Teams, and other Microsoft Office products, county appraisal district portals, county deed record portals, and the Texas Secretary of State and eFileTexas e-filing portals. Heavy internet research is required for background and asset searches.

Compensation and benefits:

  • Salary (80k+) range is wide and commensurate with experience
  • Eligible for quarterly performance bonuses after one year in the position
  • Health insurance reimbursement program
  • Paid vacation and personal time
  • Business casual dress code, including jeans
  • Roth IRA with employer matching, managed by GDS Wealth Management, a Flower Mound firm whose founder has been named to Forbes’ Best-in-State Wealth Advisors list since 2019

Why KMDA:

We know a candidate with this level of skill could make more money at a downtown firm. What we offer instead: no downtown commute, no parking garage, no high-rise office politics, and a close-knit staff that has worked together for years. Many of our clients have been with the firm for over 20 years and have real relationships with our team. If those things matter to you as much as the paycheck, this may be the right fit.
