KMDA is a fast pace but down-to-earth, established construction / real estate / business litigation firm located in Lewisville.  We are looking for a high achiever who wants a challenging position as a litigation paralegal for a fast-growing construction / real estate litigation firm in Lewisville.

PARALEGAL/LEGAL ASSISTANT POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The assistant is the primarily assist the main partner.  We are looking for someone that wants a smaller firm (but not solo) with a more laid-back attitude.  Jeans are a perk!  Our clients are construction clients, they would faint if you came in in a suit.

Type / Title: Legal Secretary (“LS”)
Office Hours:  8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Skill Sets Needed:

  • We are looking for a person who has experience in a small office environment.
  • Must be able to take direction from attorneys and office manager.
  • Conscience about showing up to work and not calling in sick unnecessarily.
  • Teamwork is very important
  • You need to be able to work independently.
  • Should be able to correctly prioritize tasks and manage time with little assistance from KMD.
  • Must organize and manage multiple priorities with limited supervision
  • Responsible for solving daily problems that come up and are associated with
  • Able to take constructive criticism and not shift the blame
  • Works overtime, as needed, to complete a task or keep up with task list.
  • Responsible for timely communicating updates of cases for KMD
  • Perform all work accurately and without punctuation error.
  • Needs outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Be highly motivated, dedicated to serving the needs of our clients and eager to learn

Qualifications:

  • Litigation experience is given priority.
  • Has advanced technical and communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Superb attention to detail, grammar, and punctuation, and the ability to articulate thoughts and effectively present new ideas and findings.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented and very well-organized.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Create, format, edit, proofread, and manage Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations. Draft routine correspondence, forms, etc. under appropriate supervision.
  • Draft basic demand letters, discovery, motions, and pleadings.
  • Organizing client documents and preparing responses to disclosure.
  • E-filing and E-Serve.
  • Handle emails & phone calls with opposing counsel, courts, and clients.
  • Candidate must be highly motivated, dedicated to serving the needs of our clients and eager to learn.
  • Assist with trial preparation.
  • Calculate and calendar deadlines per court rules and/or scheduling orders.
  • Assist with lawyer’s calendar by scheduling appointments, depositions, meetings (external and internal), hearings, etc.
  • Enter and manage work requests from lawyers and complete according to provided deadline(s).
  • Be responsible for keeping track of time in the litigation software (Abacus) on a daily basis.
  • Perform routine filing, photocopying, scanning, compiling, and distributing of documents.
  • Operate independently to ensure assignments, which may be complex in nature or require high-level production, are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Produce a high volume of work assignments in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist with some of the Firm’s social media presence / marketing.

Requirements:

  • A legal assistant / paralegal certification;
  • 3-5 years experience in litigation;
  • Must submit to a 3 month probationary period; and
  • Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, practices, etc.
